Media & attention
Following attention and its monetisation
Help Geneva media organisations, consumers and producers understand where attention flows and how monetisation is layered over it.
The project connects Geneva media organisations, audiences and content producers to trace how attention moves between news outlets, social platforms and recommendation systems. Voluntary personal data exports, audience accounts and information shared by producers can help investigate discovery, viewing and referral patterns. Together, participants examine the advertising, subscriptions, sponsorship and platform revenue mechanisms layered over those flows. A record of attention does not by itself reveal advertising payments or prove why a recommendation occurred; the work should make those limits explicit and distinguish observations from hypotheses. Consumers retain control of their browsing and viewing histories, and producers decide what commercially sensitive information they share. The goal is a shared account of who attracts attention, who benefits financially and what remains opaque.
